CareFusion Foundation Announces Second Year of Clincial Excellence Grant Program

$500,000 in Total Funding Aimed at Improving Medication Safety, Efficiency

SAN DIEGO, Dec. 9, 2013 —The CareFusion Foundation today announced the continuation of its annual Clinical Excellence Grant program, providing $500,000 in total funding to help identify and share best practices for medication safety and efficiency in U.S. hospitals.

Now in its second year, the Clinical Excellence Grant program is the largest of its kind from the CareFusion Foundation, which was established in 2009. The Foundation will award up to $500,000 in total grant funding to eligible health care institutions seeking funding for research projects that measurably improve the safe and efficient management and administration of medication. The maximum grant for any one recipient is $50,000. The CareFusion Foundation is now accepting applications, with eligibility requirements and grant applications available at www.carefusion.com/clinicalexcellence.

"By funding these projects, we hope to assist the health care community implement clinical initiatives that will help reduce medication errors, improve the effectiveness of clinical practice, increase pharmacy efficiency and drive standardization,” said Dr. Carlos Nunez, chief medical officer and senior vice president of Medical Affairs for CareFusion. “These initiatives encourage the sharing of best practices more broadly within the industry and increase awareness of medication-related patient safety at all points of care.”

In the first year of its clinical excellence grants program, the CareFusion Foundation awarded more than $500,000 in funding to 11 U.S. non-profit health care institutions to help develop and share infection prevention best practices.

The announcement was made while CareFusion (NYSE: CFN) exhibits at the 2013 American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition being held today through Thursday in Orlando, Fla.
